MySpace Playlist: 2/22/09

Sorry about the delay in posts. Last week I was busy with many things, one of which was writing my first post for Lakewood-Now. I'm going to be contributing to the paper on a semi-regular basis, and I completed my first article on The O's. I've been writing about them so much lately that I should ask the band to be their publicist. Anyways, if you want to read the article (and of course you do), then click here to do so.

I made a playlist last week, but never did a blog to provide my thoughts on each song. I decided to keep most of the songs from last week and give my belated commentary.

  1. "Even Born Again", Sarah Jaffe
It's a little late for me to tell you about her show at Opening Bell Mosaic. I went this past Friday, and was reminded how phenomenal of a talent she is. Chills went up and down my spine as she sang this one.

  2. "Leaves and Sticks", Romp Almighty
I know they play at Barley House most Monday nights; I'm not sure if they'll be there tomorrow or not. Either way, this song is a lot of fun.

  3. "Evil on the Highway", Dove Hunter
These guys have a busy week ahead of them, opening for Heartless Bastards on Thursday and playing with Flickerstick this Saturday. Check on my site early tomorrow morning, as I'll give you a chance to see DH play with Heartless Bastards this Thursday at the Longhorn Saloon.

  4. "In This Life", Rahim Quazi
Have you voted for this song in the Festival4Stars Live competition? Well, what are you waiting for? Click on the link, which will open up a separate window, allowing you to resume reading this after you're done. Don't delay!

  5. "Need a Release", the cut*off

  6. "Wishful Sinking", The Slack

  7. "Hang On", Salim Nourallah
This Saturday, the cut*off, The Slack, and Salim Nourallah will play together at Lakewood Bar & Grill. This may be the greatest line-up the venue has had in the history of its existence.

  8. "Shivonne", Menkena
I was asked who my current favorite local band is, and upon careful consideration, the name that came to mind was Menkena. They'll be playing this Saturday along with Dove Hunter and Stella Rose for the Flickerstick farewell show.

  9. "For Keeps", Iris Leu
A few weeks ago, I received Ms. Leu's Hushaboo CD in the mail. It is a thoroughly interesting and charming disc reminiscent of early Sarah McLachlan. I had the opportunity to meet Iris last weekend, and she is not only a talent musician, but simply a nice person. She will be holding her CD Release Show this Thursday at Mokah. It's enough to make me consider getting out on a weeknight.

  10. "Execution by X-Mas Lights", Flickerstick
I really hope this will be played Saturday night. Goodbye Flickerstick, you shall be missed.
